On the Beach

"To myself I am only a child playing on the beach,
while vast oceans of truth lie undiscovered before me."

Nefertiti

Wow!  She was stunningly beautiful and this LEGO sculpture by LEGO Artist Nathan Sawaya was remarkable and captivating with the amazing blue crown, the dramatic layers of color and overall impact with such a life-like appearance.  As I strolled through THE ART OF THE BRICK exhibition, this piece was a definite favorite.  I was mesmerized by the artist's incredible talent and precision and the dramatic effect of her eyes, face and crown.  The artist's statement clearly explains Nefertiti as well as the cultural significance of elements seen in this sculpture.

Clematis

In Iowa early June brings warmth, sunshine, green grass and lots of blooming things, including the majestic and colorful clematis.  Right outside my door I took this picture of the bold white flowers along with another purple variety in the background.  Just beyond our porch these beauties are everywhere as the vines have grown well beyond the original trellis and supporting poles to now serve as a blanket on the top tier of landscaping in this particular area. Some might say it's a jumbled mess but I love the sea of green and the perfectly placed petals found everywhere -- thank you, Mother Nature.

"The earth laughs in flowers."

#2000

This post is a milestone for my blog as it is number 2000!  In late March of 2012 I embarked on this little adventure into the world of social media and sharing my thoughts, photographs and several corresponding quotes.  As time passed and I fell in love with the art of Zentangle, I have also included several of my tangles.  So, this blog remains a work in progress that features many of my artistic endeavors and a bit of what inspires me as an artist.  In the meantime, I want to thank all faithful viewers and express my appreciation to those who let me know they follow this blog and enjoy seeing my creations.  Hence, this blog has been a labor of love and commitment to my work and followers.  Here's to the next 2000 posts.

Not So Simple

Easter Island Recreation

This post contains photos of another amazing sculpture by LEGO Artist Nathan Sawaya.  Just like the actual Moai figures on Easter Island, this is a colossal creation that contains over 75,000 Lego pieces.  Whew!  Many more interesting details are text in the third image; however, regardless of the time period, both the originals and the LEGO replica are truly remarkable feats.  As noted in previous posts, this and several other outstanding recreations were on view in THE ART OF THE BRICK exhibition at Union Station in Kansas City.
