Or Not

"Art should look like art, trees and flowers and people,
not weird shapes and splotches of color all smeared together."

It's Spring

When the calendar turns to late March, I am thrilled; however, I certainly realize that not every spring day will look like the image above.  In fact, here in Iowa it's not usual to have snow and cool temperatures well after the vernal equinox.  The following quote best summarizes the weather we experience at this time of the year:

"In the Spring, I have counted 136 different kinds of weather inside of 24 hours."

Unusual

What's this?  A flying fish fountain at Atlantis.  That's the simple answer.  However, what makes it so interesting is the contrast, texture and unusual subjects.  The bright, sunny conditions made this image very harsh in color but in black and white it becomes much more interesting.

"There is no beauty without some strangeness."
                                                                    --Edgar Allan Poe

Bagpipes

"The tune was wailing and mournful, almost fragrantly so,
and the total effect was of a heartbroken piccolo being
parted forever from its bagpipe lover."

Small but Mighty

In the bottom left corner is this quote by Goethe:  The ideal of beauty is simplicity and tranquility. How appropriate for this scene.  Actually, this image is tiny in size (as I cropped it to 3 x 7 inches) but powerful in its message.  This happens to be a personal favorite and that of several others folks who refer to it as tranquil.  Currently this shot along with many other of my fog scenes are on exhibit at the Dubuque Carnegie-Stout Public Library.  If you are headed to downtown Dubuque, stop in and take a look as the exhibit is open through March.
