Filling the Form

The above photo is the foundation that I created by repeating the same pattern, varying the size of each piece and drawing in layers.  Indeed it is a favorite of mine that allows me to "play" for hours with all sorts of markers and a graphite pencil....and to forget about most other things, including the time, the weather, the misery making headlines in the world and so forth.   Ahhhhh....that's something beautiful.

Comfy Space

This photo I took in our home as the grouping is part of the interior décor.  And it is a great reminder to put whatever we love all around us, including in our comfy spaces and in the locations where we spend a lot of time.  What a beautiful way to honor ourselves.  Include favorite colors, photos, objects, textures, smells, lighting and so on.

May this inspire you to have some fun and create your own version of "something beautiful."

Winter Scenes

in harvest teach,
in winter enjoy."

Take 2

The piece below is my original drawing while the one above is the result of a photo editing app.  So, take your pick.  I loved the original with the deep contrasts, spacious center and organic border yet when I tried out this grunge look it also became my favorite.  Enjoy both!

And, if you'd like to take a tangling class from me and create your own masterpiece, use the link below to register.  This virtual session is this Sunday, 9-10 am.  Give it a try!

Intricate Designs

Look Up!

It is no surprise that I love libraries for the materials as well as for the interesting designs and unique architectural features.  The images below feature the first floor ceiling, beams and windows of the Carnegie-Stout Public Library in downtown Dubuque, Iowa.   Of course, I edited the original photos to create something to my liking as the ceiling is not really all the colors of the rainbow....but how cool would that be if it was!  Ahhhhhh...

Anyway, if lines, patterns and lighting interest you, a trip to this place is in order.

Colors & Shapes

"There are only 3 colors, 10 digits, and 7 notes;
it's what we do with them that's important."

A New Year

At this time of year hope springs eternal as the calendar changes, we move on from the previous twelve-month period and embark on a new.

Rebirth.  Light.  Opportunity.  Optimism.  Abundance. Growth anchored in an intricate foundation.

The images below feature an amazing creation by Hong Chun Zhang that, in my estimation, embodies all of those ideals noted above.  Ahhhhhhh....this incredible piece is on exhibit in the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum in Kansas City.  If you can, see it in person as it is captivating and delightfully uplifting.

In the meantime, happy 2023.
