Pen to Paper

Love Locks

In downtown Dunedin, Florida, near the Artisan Apartment Complex and the Pinellas Trail, is this unique sculpture known as "The Hearts."  As with similar structures throughout the globe, sweethearts place a padlock on the form, and, to symbolize their unbreakable love, they throw away the key.  Some locks are void of particular details; however, many contain names, dates, initials and/or a momentous occasion.

"Your heart knows the way.
Run in that direction."

It's Spring!

 Yesterday in the Northern Hemisphere was the vernal equinox, and, this change is season leaves me very excited, as if I am a wee one waiting to open presents on Christmas morning. And, I feel like running through the neighborhood announcing, "Spring is here!  Spring is here!"

Anyway, below is a drawing of mine that includes the tangle "Dubble Blooming Butter," by Olga Barko.  If you are interested in exploring the simple repetitive floral pattern, there are many visuals available online.

"The beautiful spring came;
 and when nature resumes her loveliness,
the human soul is apt to revive also."

Holly

Traditionally March 17th is reserved for all things green as the calendar says it's St. Patrick's Day; however, I added a twist by including red berries in a sea of green!  Yep, these images feature the iconic Holly tree.  And, yes, I love looking at these brilliantly bold-colored berries and the delightful contrast to the waxy thick leaves.  It's a feast for my senses as I explore the colors, textures, and lines plus play hide and seek with the mockingbirds that move nimbly inside the outer shell (which resembles an obstacle course made of narrow branches.)

Here's to a HOLLY-JOLLY St. Patrick's Day.

Gone Fishin'

As an Iowa native, my notion of fishing includes a stream or river that meanders through a lush forest full of woodland creatures; however, that is only one perspective.  Interestingly, the three featured images differ considerably from my description above.  Essentially, whether one is fishing among the trees and squirrels or on a white-sand beach speckled with treasures brought ashore by the tide, the location really does not matter.  Just take the time to go fishing or take a nap or use your crayons or listen to music or do whatever activity that makes your heart happy.
