Allium

 


In late spring allium bulbs emerge and enormous purple spheres atop tall narrow stalks take center stage in the garden.   Essentially, this is an ornamental onion whose close relatives are garlic, shallot, chives and leeks.  Have you seen them?  Perhaps they adorn your landscape.  

These images feature the remnants of these showstoppers and remind me of wispy puff balls that linger after a dandelion turns to seed.   Ahhhh....something beautiful.
